Highgate u17 v Finchley u17 Cup competition at Finchley ~ Match Report by Chris Riches.

Finchley 146 for 2 in 20 overs. Highgate 148 for 1 in 18.1 overs

A young Highgate u17’s eased to a comfortable win in the u17 Middlesex cup competition against Finchley.

They were indebted to skipper Danny Blyghton who hit an undefeated 73 from 56 balls. It was a mature exhibition of controlled batting. Classy drives, wristy cuts and hard running between the wickets were the highlight of his innings.

Danny was aided by Otto Proctor who cut and deflected the ball well and was encouraged to run hard by Danny. When Otto went stumped by the impressive Matt McGowan (70 with the bat for Finchley) Danny was joined by Will Leggett who clubbed 48 undefeated runs. The partnership with Danny Blyghton put on an unbroken 88.

Finchley batted well to set up a total of 146. There were good bowling spells from Tom Newell who bowled the only maiden of the game. His four overs going for 20. Will Leggett had a great all round game with his 4 overs only costing 21. He also took a good catch.

The bowlers were backed up by some decent ground fielding although the last five overs cost 56 runs with a little indiscipline in the field.

It was good to see Will Nesbitt u13 field well in what must have been quite an experience for a junior. Well done Will. Also, nice to see Raffy Clarke Hall back playing and also fielding strongly.

A very satisfying win at a beautiful ground on a lovely sunny evening with some great cricket played by both teams.
